Comments
Florida A&M had a new helmet design in 2008 (shown above).
I received very little information for the other teams in the MEAC in 2008, and it would come as a surprise to me to learn that there were other new helmet designs in use that were never reported - even though this is a Division I conference.

In 1996, Bethune-Cookman was supposedly using a helmet design like the first one shown above, but with a script "Cats" logo on the sides in maroon letters, outlined in white, and without the middle stripe.

*1 What was called a "throwback" helmet design was used during the 2005 home game against North Carolina A&T; this is presumably an indication that such a helmet design was also used by FAMU during some earlier period, but I have not received any historical helmet information for this team from the years prior to about the mid-1990s. This design was again used during a 2006 home game against South Carolina State.

The dates of use for some of these helmets remain uncertain. The team apparently used plain silver helmets throughout the 2005 season, before switching to a "skinny" HU logo in 2006. For an unknown number of games in 2007 (perhaps just one or two games?), the team apparently went back to the "fat" HU logo that was used from 2002 through 2004. All known photographs from the 2008 season shown Hampton again using the "skinny" HU logo that was apparently first used in 2006.

*1 Decals were added to the sides of the helmets in 2005 after an unknown number of games (either one or two), but by at least game #3 against Bethune-Cookman.

I received a report in 2005 of a possible change for this team since the 2004 season; specifically it was suggested that the middle stripe on the helmets may have been made a darker color. I would appreciate some clear photographs from 2004 or earlier to compare with ones from the 2005 season.

Below is a photograph of an interesting WSSU helmet dating from perhaps the mid-1990s. I had received a copy of the logo for this helmet at one time, but I lost it during a hard drive crash, so I would appreciate it if the person who sent it could please send it again. I will also need a photograph showing the stripe sequence (if any) used on this helmet.
